Below are some pictures that where taken during our first week in Ghana. The first one is our full group at a reception held for us at the US Embassy in Accra (13 June 2005). The second is our group in the back of a trotro on our way to a party hosted by the current Peace Corp Volunteers here in Ghana. The next one is a trotro charter by the Peace Corps (top of the line). The last one is a picture of our group, in the trotro pictured, one our way to the Ghana Education Ministry for a reception.

The first phase of our training was in Accra (Accra-phase). While in Accra we stayed at Valley View University.

Valley View was a calm, peaceful place where we had time to acclimate to our new environment. This is also where we began our training here in Ghana.

Saturday 10 June 2005. We woke up and had breakfast at ~8:30 AM. In the morning we had introductions and we played some fun games. In the afternoon (~4 PM) we all piled into a trotro and headed to Accra.

In Accra we went to Duncans spot in the Osu area of Accra. In Ghana bars are called "spots." There are 6 beers here in Ghana. Star, ABC, Club, and Gulder are light to medium lager beers. Castle Milk stout and Guiness are Ales. Not only is the beer good but it's cheap, you get a 22 oz bottle for less than a US dollar. There is also a favorite liquor here in Ghana called Akpertoshi (Ap-a-tesh-i). I didn't try it.

Duncan also served us hot meat kabobs and some other appetizers which were great. All in all it was a great time and we all headed back to Valley View happy.

We stayed at Valley View for what seemed like a long time but was actually only about a week.

We left Valley View, setting out on Accra Quest, on 15-June-2005. The next day we said goodbye to Valley View for good as we set out on our Vision Quest.

Below are some of the pictures that I took while we stayed at Valley View University.
